Izola Bank is wholly owned by the Van Marcke Group, a family owned company which is fast approaching its centennial of operations. Though the bulk of its business is concentrated in Belgium, the Group operate over 140 stores in France, the USA, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
Van Marcke Group is the largest plumbing and heating wholesaler in Belgium and a manufacturer and retailer of sanitary ware, laboratory furniture and related products. They are also involved in packaging and transportation.
Van Marcke is a brand dedicated to providing a better quality of life through environmentally friendly and sustainable products. The Group’s new €75 million distribution centre in Kortrijk, Belgium is completely carbon neutral.
When the Van Marcke Group established a banking arm to initially serve its own commercial needs, it chose Malta as its location. The island offers a robust regulatory framework in Europe, backed by an excellent communications and IT infrastructure and a professional workforce.
Izola Bank gained its banking licence in 1994 and has been heavily involved in Van Marcke Group’s treasury operations, particularly in the areas of cash and liquidity management, as well as lending and factoring. As a natural evolution to this, the Bank also started to offer the Group’s clients niche products with exclusive benefits.
Izola Bank also provides tailor-made financing solutions for SMEs and large companies in Malta and Belgium who are specifically looking for growth or to finance a particular project. This includes Izola Factor, commercial credit facilities, comprising of term-loans and overdrafts and tailor-made structures aimed at financing specific underlying needs of the business.
The Bank has also joined forces with two leading pan-European deposit platforms to offer personal deposits in a number of European countries, providing the Bank with a more diverse and liquid source of funding.

When people find themselves in a crisis, arising from situations like benefit delays, low income, homelessness, sickness or housing issues caused in part by rising rents, it can take some time for Care Professionals in Malta to find a long-term solution to help them.
The Foodbank Lifeline Foundation helps these people by providing non-perishable food packs that can sustain an individual, couple or family for a period of one week.
From feeding just over 240 families in the last 6 months of 2015, as of 2019 the Foodbank is feeding almost 100 families every single week, with operational costs running well into the tens of thousands every month.
Izola Bank shares Foodbank Lifelines belief - that no child or adult should ever experience the indignity of hunger. This is why in 2019, Izola Bank formalised their support of the Foodbank by becoming a joint main sponsor of the Foodbank along with The Alfred Mizzi Foundation.
Aside from ongoing monetary donations, the Bank has also sponsored the development and management of all Foodbank Lifeline’s digital touch points, the production of ongoing operational material and the sponsorship of various fund-raising initiatives. Izola Bank is also the main sponsor of the Reverse Advent Calendar Campaign.
